Livonia Transition Program
I spearheaded Schoolcraft College's partnership with the Livonia Public Schools Livonia Transition Program (LTP), which provides learning opportunities for post-secondary students with disabilities. Working with College constituents and LTP administrators, we began using empty classroom and office space in Schoolcraft’s Jeffress Center in Fall 2014 to bring these students to campus so that they would have access to many of the same resources as our non-LTP students.
Engaging with the Schoolcraft community on our main campus, LTP students have an opportunity to acquire the life and job-related skills they need to be productive members of the community. |
Starting with a focus on Finance and Business services, Schoolcraft has been placing LTP students into functional jobs on the Livonia campus, providing real-life work experience that will set them up for future success. The LTP at Schoolcraft has been well received and is now in its sixth year.
Masco World Headquarters
As the President of one of Schoolcraft College's six 501(c)(3)(4) entities, I led an effort to engage Masco, a global leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of branded home improvement and building products, in an ongoing partnership. The Partnership, which involved extensive negotiation, resulted in Masco moving its world headquarters from Taylor, Michigan to land directly adjacent to Schoolcraft’s main campus.
The partnership has benefited Schoolcraft College students as it has created opportunities for enhanced experiential learning. It has also allowed the College to leverage its ample amenities, providing valuable services to Masco while at the same time bolstering the College’s bottom line. |
St. Joe's Sports Dome
With an emphasis on a relationship-based approach, I worked with the Wolves-Hawks Soccer Club and Mercy Elite Sports Performance to conceive and build the St. Joe’s Sports Dome. Completed in 2017, it is now the largest sports dome in Michigan and is located on Schoolcraft College’s main campus in Livonia. The Dome is equipped with a full regulation soccer field and is also used for volleyball, baseball, softball, lacrosse, and a variety of events.
|
Locating the St. Joe’s Sports Dome at Schoolcraft has proven to be an effective strategy in attracting an increased number of younger people and their parents to the Schoolcraft College campus. Beyond exposing more young people and their parents to the Schoolcraft experience, having the Dome on campus has increased possibilities and options for the College’s Continuing Education and Professional Development programs, College Athletics and intramural sports, High School Dual Enrollment, and the Kids on Campus program.
IHA Urgent Care
In order to improve the student experience at Schoolcraft and to provide value to staff and the College community as a whole, I developed a relationship with IHA in order to install a 6,000 square foot Urgent Care Center in the first floor of the Jeffress Center on Schoolcraft’s main campus. In addition to bringing a critical service directly to students, College staff, and community members, Campus Police and other critical service providers are able to access this facility without having to leave campus.

St. Joe's Mercy Elite Sports Center
The St. Joe's Mercy Elite Sports Center, opening in Fall 2020, is the product of a multifaceted partnership among Schoolcraft College's Movement Science program, the College's Continuing Education and Professional Development program, Michigan Elite Volleyball, Mercy Elite, St. Joseph Mercy Health System, and the Wolves-Hawks Soccer Clubs.
The Center will be a 75,000-square-foot multi-purpose space that will house eight volleyball courts, a running track, a soccer training space, and fitness and rehabilitation spaces. |
Dedicated to the growth of youth and adult sports on the I-275 Corridor of metropolitan Detroit, the Center will enrich the College’s Associate Degree program in Movement Science through training opportunities and will also provide advanced sports-related services to the Schoolcraft community. This ambitious project would not have been possible without the preexisting relationships I had worked with a core team of College staff and partners to develop over a number of years.
IHA/St. Joe's Livonia Medical Center
Beyond providing critical medical services to the surrounding community, the Medical Center will support hands-on educational opportunities for students, preparing them for in-demand careers in growing health care fields. This project was developed as a result of relationships that I had cultivated through the Finance and Business offices of the College and will be managed under one of the College's six 501(c)(3)(4) entities, of which I am President. Public Safety Training Complex
Through its Police and Fire academies, Schoolcraft College helps ensure the safety of its community. The Public Safety Complex also provides opportunities for training students who will become future professionals supporting public safety.
Beginning in 2010, I worked with a team at the College as well as the City of Livonia to convert an old landfill into a 10-acre driving pad for the College’s Police and Fire training programs. I also led the evaluation of two warehouses situated adjacent to the driving pad as potential homes for the College’s public safety programs, and after qualifying the buildings, negotiated the terms of their purchase. |
Once the transaction was complete, I oversaw relocation of the public safety programs from the Radcliff Center in Garden City to the new site in Livonia, creating a consolidated and convenient complex that encompasses all of the resources necessary to achieve the goals of the programs.
Jeffress Center Building
The Jeffress Center is a modern, multi-use facility that houses 11 classrooms, several Schoolcraft College programs, and College partner offices, as well as the College President’s office, multiple College administrative offices, and the College Foundation.
The great utility realized through the Jeffress Center was achieved at exceptionally low cost given a negotiation I led in 2013 to purchase the former American Community Insurance building, which was ideally located adjacent to the College’s main campus in Livonia. Purchased for $3 million, the Jeffress Center is now valued at over $25 million.
